LOW IMPACT ALPINISM

DAYS
6

RATIO
1:1

PRICE
£3,345

For climbers who want to experience Alpine Mountaineering while appreciating the natural beauty of the alps and leaving no trace behind (while saving money on huts!).

Instead of using cable cars and staying in mountain huts to reach routes, we will walk in to routes and camp or bivouac in the peace and quiet of nature. Participants should bring sleeping bag and mat - other camping gear is supplied.

You and your Mountain Guide will set an itinerary for the week to suit your climbing level and the weather conditions at the time. In between camping/climbing trips you can enjoy the friendly atmosphere of our alpine chalet, warm hospitality and home cooking on your nights back in the valley.

Climb in the Val d'Herens, Saas Tal, Zermatt, Oberland, Chamonix or Aosta areas on routes of your choice. Please give us an idea of what you'd like to do on your booking form (using the "Previous experience and requirements" box).

Potential objectives can include rock climbing (e.g. climbing and wild camping at Sanestch, Muveran Arete de Saille) or alpine mountaineering (e.g. Douves Blanches, Aiguilles Rouges traverse, endless possibilities).

This week is also available with 2:1 guiding - contact us for details and prices.

Saturday morning: Travel home - check out by 9am

This week is aimed at people who've done some Alpine climbing (at least PD grade) but will also suit people with UK winter and rock climbing experience. The itinerary will be crafted to suit your goals and experience. Fitness is important. Many hut approaches will involve 1200m ascents as the Valais doesn't have the easy lift-access of Chamonix and carrying camping kit means a heavier rucksack than hut based alpine trips.

Running, cycling and gym sessions (in fact, any regular sport) all provide good fitness training for summer alpine courses, but it's hard to beat good days out in the hills. If you don't have easy access to hills, your gym training will need to be carefully planned - mountain days are long, low-intensity exercise, which is hard to replicate in short gym sessions. Strength exercises (squats, step-ups, stair-climbing with a rucksack) are gaining favour over speed exercises (running, spinning).
