AROLLA "SLIGHTLY STEEPER" SKI TOURS

DAYS
6

RATIO
5:1

PRICE
£1,895

A week of Guided Off Piste Skiing and Ski Touring in the Arolla Valley.

The Val d'Hérens has lots of challenging skiing accessed by touring from the 3 small lift areas. This is not an "extreme" skiing week (!) but aimed at skiers who can climb 1000+m and ski 40 degrees on day tours. As well as doing lots of skiing, there will be time for instruction on techniques for skiing on steeper ground, safety aspects of operating on steep ground (use of ropes etc), climbing while carrying skis, etc.

Possible objectives include the Tsena Refien, Vuibé Glacier and glacier descent to Evolene from Pointe de Vouasson.

For inspiration, see the blogs from 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019.

The week is based at Hotel Aiguille de La Tza in Arolla within easy reach of the ski lifts in Arolla, Evolene and Forclaz. This friendly, family run hotel has been recently refurbished and provides a warm welcome and authentic mountain hotel atmosphere for its guests with great food.

For our ski tours and ski touring courses we recommend you have a good general fitness level as a starting point (involving regular cardiovascular exercise e.g. hill walking, running, cycling). It's worth adding some strength exercises too - squats with weights, 1-leg squats, step-ups, etc). Strong muscles (and good technique) are crucial to avoiding injury - and you'll have more fun skiing.

For this Steeper Skiing week you should be comfortable making 1000m of ascent per day at 400m/hour and able to confidently ski at least 40 degree slopes off piste IN CONTROL!

"Slightly steeper week in Arolla was a great experience. We were lucky to have sun, and completed a varied selection of day tours with scenic ascents and challenging descents, coupled with lots of tips and advice from Graham. Highly recommended!"
— Paul, March 2025
"I guess Graham wasn't responsible for the perfect weather, but he was definitely responsible for first class guiding. It was a long time since the last snowfall, but we got to make fresh tracks on good snow every day and were constantly challenged by interesting and varied skiing. When it's hard to find fresh snow, there is no substitute for knowing the place really well, and Graham's experience of the area is encyclopaedic."
— Chris, March 2025
"Now back in London, missing the Foehn! I wanted to say thank you for organising a great week, I really enjoyed it."
— Seb, March 2024
